"Find The Nuts" sounds like a sex app, but its a fantastic poker training exercise.

In poker, “the nuts” is the strongest possible hand in a given situation. “Find The Nuts: Texas Holdem Trainer” is a one-player Texas Hold ‘em training application that teaches users to learn to read the community cards.

Why is reading the community cards important?

In a real game of Texas Hold‘em, many players look at their hole cards then look to the community cards to identify their hand. They then identify what cards they want when new community cards are dealt.

Instead, players should read the community cards to determine the best possible hand. Identifying the nuts allows a player to understand how his hand compares to other hands and whether or not he should continue to bet.

As an example, the following cards are dealt on the flop:

6 of clubs
Ace of diamonds
Ace of spades

Someone with the remaining two Aces for hole cards (pocket Aces) has the nuts. If the 5 of clubs is dealt on the turn, the player with pocket Aces still has the nuts. However, if another club, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, or 9, is dealt on the river, the nuts changes. It’s possible that someone has a straight flush, which beats 4 Aces.

Reading the community cards tells a player where his hand ranks and what his opponents may have.

In “Find The Nuts: Texas Holdem Trainer”, 3-5 community cards are dealt to the center of the game screen. The rest of the 52-card deck is in a scrollable row at the bottom of the screen. A player must choose two cards from the remaining deck for his hole cards. He should ask himself, “Which cards would give me the best five-card hand?” Once he chooses two cards and submits his answer, the application will reveal the correct hole cards and the five-card hand that comprises the nuts.

Players can practice with 3, 4, or 5 community cards; “Random” lets the application choose the number of cards; and “Progressive” deals a flop, turn, and river, representing the deal of a real Texas Hold ‘em game and teaching a player to re-determine the nuts as new community cards are dealt.

“Find The Nuts: Texas Hold’em Trainer” is a great compliment to other popular poker apps: World Series of Poker, Ultimate Hold’em Poker, Live Poker by Zynga, and Poker Superstars, and it was produced by the new hit app, “Nerve’s Sex Position of the Day”.

Pros and cons of Find The Nuts: Texas Holdem Trainer app for iPhone and iPad

Find The Nuts: Texas Holdem Trainer app good for

Great app for both poker beginners and those whove played a lot. I already see the board quicker and better than ever, and Im a better player because of it. Totally different than every other poker app out there. Im glad I found it.
For 99 cents, you will get so fast at reading the cards in Texas Hold em, you will easily win that money back next time you get together with your poker friends. I feel much more confident in my game, and am looking forward to kicking some a*s in vegas next time I go! This will be the best 99 cents you ever spend in the app store. Would easily have paid 10 bucks for such an effective training tool. Buy it, BUY IT NOOOOOW!!
Im so happy I stumbled upon this application. Its fun, it has a great interface, and Im learning how to quickly identify not only the best possible hand, but the second and third as well. My favorite is playing in Progressive mode, where I can follow the best hands from the flop through the river. A bluffer by nature... Im really getting a sense for when Im just playing recklessly. A must have for any Hold Em player!
This is a good app,and Im glad I came across it. Its a simple idea but a good exercise. Most people probably wont appreciate it.
This app is a great trainer! Ive been on an iPhone Texas hold em binge and could not figure out what I was doing wrong- why I wasnt getting better. This app helps me recognize all the possibilities and makes me think about & analyze my moves, as a good player should do. However, I have a couple of suggestions: when you make a wrong move, the correct move flashes by too quickly and you dont get a chance to see what should have been the right move. An option to hold and look at it before it goes to the next card would be great. Plus, I would love to see the cards at the bottom of the screen made larger or less cumbersome to scroll through. Make them a little larger, stack them, whatever....please! All in all a fabulous app! Tweak it a bit and itll be 5 star worthy!
I always shy away from playing poker, or any table games for that matter, bacause Im embarassed that I know so little about how to play them. This app is great because its giving me the opportunity to learn without even having to play a full game yet, and of course more importantly - without anyone watching!

Some bad moments

It helps a bit, but does not recognize the "real game" 2nd and 3rd nuts. i.e., if the board pairs (TT) the nuts would be quads (TTTT). The 2nd nuts would be a full house (TT888). The 3rd would be a smaller full house or maybe a staight or set. This game puts the 2nd and 3rd nuts as TTTT with a smaller kicker? 2 players cant have the same pair of TT in the hole with TT on the board. If the game could be fixed to recognize the 2nd and 3rd "true nuts" it would be worth it.
This app is terrible. You dont learn anything from it. The answer is always: pick 2 of the same card to get 4 of a kind. Do not waste even $0.99 on it.
Needs major help, reset button doesnt work and it starts you back from the beginning if you try to move forward...
